Tips from and for caregivers
Have the 'good' conversation with each other
November 10 is Caregiver Day. As a caregiver, you voluntarily care for someone in your environment, such as a family member, friend or neighbor. At 2Samen, we have many colleagues who care for a loved one. That is why we think it is important to have the 'good conversation'. Between manager and employees, but also as colleagues among themselves. We think it is important to know how you are really doing.
Last year we asked five informal caregivers how care affects their work and life, and what tips they have for dealing with this well:
- Talk to your manager and (preferably also with) your colleagues about the concerns you have for, about or about a loved one.
- Indicate to colleagues and your manager what you think you need. For example, would you rather talk about it or not? Is it important that you remain reachable?
- Try to coordinate your work and private life well, so that you create a good balance (change of working days, consciously attend after-school care, etc.).
- Know that you are not alone! We often tend to think that we can solve everything on our own. But sometimes understanding, a listening ear and/or a little help is very nice.
