The government helps pay

You can often receive a contribution from the government for childcare, the so-called childcare allowance. This allowance is income-related; the higher your income, the lower the allowance you receive. You are entitled to childcare allowance if: 1) both parents work, are following a path to work or training or an integration course or 2) you are a single parent who works or is following an education or an integration course.

Apply yourself

You apply for this allowance yourself. You can do this via the Tax Authorities toeslagen.nl or by phone via 0800 - 0543. Make sure that you have your placement details and your Citizen Service Number (BSN) and that of your child(ren) at hand.

In Toolkit Explanation Childcare Allowance explains how you can apply for or change childcare allowance. The toolkit is available in four languages, namely: Dutch, English, Polish and Arabic.

This infographic from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment provides more information about what childcare costs in the Netherlands.

Apply for your allowance on time!

The government only provides childcare allowance if the application is submitted no more than three months after the start of childcare. If you are entitled to a Reimbursement for the Costs of Toddler Care (TKP), you must submit your application within six weeks after the start of the placement. If you do this later, you will forfeit your right to allowance for the earlier months. Changes in your family situation and the number of childcare hours you purchase may be submitted to the Tax Authorities at any time, retroactively.

There is no need to advance

The Tax Authorities will transfer the allowance you are entitled to to you every month. You can also choose to send the government contribution directly to Childcare 2Samen to be overwritten. From the moment we actually receive this government contribution, you will receive a lower monthly invoice from us and you no longer have to pay anything in advance. Is this something for you? Then, when asked on which account you wish to receive the compensation, enter the name and bank account number 2Samen in (IBAN NL37 RABO 014.83.01.622).

Why do we request BSNs?

Since 2013, childcare organizations must be able to provide the Tax Authorities with an overview of data about their customers, including dates of birth and Citizen Service Numbers (BSNs), upon first request. If this information is incomplete, the Tax Authorities may decide to discontinue the childcare allowance. That is why we ask customers - and sometimes repeatedly - to provide us with any missing BSNs and dates of birth.

You can of course assume that we only use these BSNs for this purpose.
